Oh Yes, I do believe in Santa....

When I was just a little girl
I'd wish with all my might...
That I might hear those jingle bells
Ringing in the night...
A stomping and a HO HO HO
I'd know that he was real...
Oh yes, I do believe I heard
One of the reindeer squeal...
The room in which I spent the night
Was cold and filled with apples...
While hiding under the blankets so warm
I'd sneak a bite, well, just to sample...
I finally fell a sleep that night
With dreams of what I'd find...
A bride doll, perhaps with brown hair
She was a beautiful sight...
Christmas morning I'd wake up at dawn
And creep on down the stairs...
The tree was lit with colored lights
And tinsel everywhere...
I'd hear a tinkling sound from bells
Bells hanging on the tree...
OH I do believe in Santa Claus
For my bride doll was waiting for me...

The circus was in town.....

Wandering kids from down the street
Would stop by my house to see if I could play….

They’d stand out front and call my name
Your friends are here, my mother would say….

Back in the 40’s, you never rang a bell
You would just stand out front of a friends house and yell…

Can you come out and play today?
We are planning a circus I would hear my friends say….

Can I, can I, Mom, can I please?
OK she said, but watch crossing that street….

I’d join the wandering kids, for we had work to do
Some brought stuffed animals, it looked like a zoo…

They piled the animals in a wagon for the parade
With a sign hanging on the back, it would say…

“Come to the Greatest Show on Earth”
It’s only 2 cents, you’ll get your money’s worth….

Our bicycle’s had crepe paper weaved in the wheels
And streamers were flying from the handle bars, it was a big deal….

The parade it had started, we go around the block
We’d wave at the neighbors, and always give a shout….

The Circus would take up most of the day
For we even had acts with costumes to play…

The neighbor moms would come to watch the show
They’d all line up and sit in a row…..

We’d serve them koolaid for only 1 cents
And they’d always smiled because it was money well spent…

And when the show was over, and the mess was picked up
We’d all go home for our supper, and jump in the tub…..

Ah, yes those where the days, no video games , no cell
Just walk to your friends house, and give a yell…..

A trip to the Orchard

Fall is my favorite time of the year
It’s when all those beautiful colors appear

A trip to the orchard, with the family
For pictures of the apples and the kids in a tree

The smell of the orchard, makes you feel high
Like the smell of the homemade apple pie

So many trees, with apples galore…
A bite out of each, wondering, can I eat more….

Finally you pick the apple to buy…
The apple, your favorite one that you tried…..

The Peace is Surreal....

The peace is surreal
in the woods at the park
It's beauty is special
I speak from the heart

I grew up here
when I was a child
this place could always
make me smile

As I pass the trees
I look up to see
A baby raccoon
looking down at me

There's a deer on the right
munching on a scrub
and the birds they are singing
while fluddering above

While walking the boardwalk
With my camera in my hand
I capture the beauty
And that is really grand....

Three Older Ladies

Three older ladies get together for tea
But they end up with coffee, because it always comes free....
With the mini breakfast that runs $1.99
They always giggle and say, That’s just fine….
........................
They’re searching for coffee shops
They know it will cost more
For that special cup of coffee
That they just adore….
.........................
But until they find that special one
They’ll get together to laugh and have fun....
On Wednesday morning, when the sun begins to shine
Us three older ladies, we certainly look fine…..

Birthdays

Birthdays come but once a year…
You’ll always be a friend so dear….

You worry that your getting old…..
It’s all in your mind, that’s what I’m told…..

Age is just a number, friend
Your body work, your legs they bend….

So toss that old word out the door….
For I’m here to help you celebrate many more….

Me and Grandpa Mux

Me and my grandpa Mux
went fishing in the lake....
He would bring the fishing poles
and I would bring the bait....
I always caught the biggest fish
for frying in the pan....
We'd take it home for supper
to eat with bread and jam....

My Grandma & Me.....

I dream of the old days
when I was just a kid...
When Grandma would tell me
what a great job I did...
Grandma lived with us for a while
she could always make me smile...
Sometimes I would sass her
and tell her a fib...
Now that wasn't very smart
but I was just a kid...
She was very generous
on trips she would buy...
Me storybook dolls
and I'll tell you why...
Because she loved me
and wanted me to be...
The best little girl
she knew I could be...

The neighbor kids.....

The neighbor kids
Come down to play

On a warm and sunny
Summer day

We would each get into
The small wash tub

With a splish and a splash
And sometimes a shove

With our suits stretched out
And hanging down

The shower cap made
Me look like a clown

The tub was small
And we squeezed in three

Duane and Carol
And there always was me

My Great Grandpa Pete

My great grandpa Pete
was a handsome man
I would look into his eyes
and somehow understand
His hair was all white
and his eyes powder blue
He spoke only German
but I always knew
That he loved me for you see
he would always share his rock candy with me
He gave me a doll
with a painted face.
It was made of oil cloth
and had no lace.
It is torn and ripped
but that doesn't matter to me
Because when I look at that doll
it brings back a memory
My only memory
of my great grandpa Pete
My doll and my candy
now isn't that SWEET?

The Red Bird...

A Red bird on the wire so high…..
Was he singing just for me?….
He sang a song, while looking around….
To see what he could see….
A big black box was staring him down…..
And of course that would be me….
With camera in hand, I caught his eye….
The Red bird on the wire so high….

The trees....

The Weeping Willow, the Maple
And the Black Walnut tree

Reach out their branches
As if to say

It’s Spring! I just woke up
And I’m going to be

The prettiest tree that
You will ever see….

The Willow is Weeping
For it’s arms are very long

They blow in the breeze
But the're not very strong

The Maple, her beauty
It shows in the fall

Red, Yellow, Orange
And she grows very tall

The Black Walnut it stretches
Out over the field

And is quite happy to provide
The squirrels next meal

Their buds are just popping
As they reach for the sky

Sharing their beauty
With the naked eye…

Easter Morning

It’s Easter morning

I can hear my kids say….

Whose going to find

All the eggs today…..

Did he hide them outside

Behind a tree

Under a branch

Just waiting for me

Or inside when we were asleep

He was mighty quiet

I didn’t hear a peep…

Check behind the flowers

On the TV

He usually leaves one

There for me…..

Yes, the bunny was busy

He had quite a load

How does he do it…

It’s magic I’m told…
This poem I wrote and posted last year for Easter.....Sorry for the repeat, but Easter just snuck up on me this year...

Luck of the Irish

glitter-graphics.com

St. Patricks Day is when
everything turns green.

Just look down the street,
and you'll see what I mean.

Theres green in the windows,
and green on the doors.

And people with green shirts
and green hair to adore

People that celebrate
by drinking green beer

And laughing and singing
for it's been a year

It's the luck of the Irish
that's what I hear......

The Birds and Me...

Tiny birds they flutter about
One dives in while the other dives out

They always seem to share their seed
Some seem happy, and some seem mean

I sit and watch them every day
For many seem to come to play

I find them sitting in the tree
They fly away, when they see me.

But back again here they come
Because they think, this place is fun.

Time goes by swiftly....

Time goes by so swiftly
But I remember it well.

For daddy would walk down
With a fun tale to tell.

I would put on the coffee
And we would sit out back

At the table he made us
For enjoying our snacks

Now Daddy and Hubby
Are no longer around

But I think of them daily
I can almost hear the sound

Of them laughing and talking
I wish they were around.

Remember times goes by so swiftly
Take time to play….

Enjoying each other
And each and every day……

Life was so innocent.....

Life was so innocent
years ago
I would dance
while my mother would sew.
She'd haul out the tap board
made of wood
and tell me to practice
I knew I should
Mom was a seamstress
sewing was her game
costumes she'd make
for me in a day
I had sparkley tap shoes
they sounded so good
hop shuffle step step
I'd dance on the wood

The Cat and the Mouse...

I look out on the field so brown.
Theirs nothing but a cat around.
He sits and stawks a little mouse
Whose hiding inside his little house.
The cat is hungry, it’s plain to see.
For a fat juicy mouse would surely be
A delicious dinner for his family.

The bricks that form a circle.....

The bricks they form a circle
Going round and round
they can really make you dizzy
until your falling down..
but indeed they are so beautiful
while buried in the ground
the bricks that form a circle
going round and round.

Seagulls

Seagulls roaming on the sand.
Waiting for the crumbs from man.
They swoop on down around your head.
Enjoying freedom, so it's said.
They love to join you while you fish.
Diving down for the ones you miss.
Many Seagulls gather around
Lots of squawking going on.

Footprints in the snow

FOOTPRINTS IN THE SNOW

I wonder where the bird tracks go
As they lead a path through the snow.

Little squirrels scatter tracks
Looking for nuts and this and that.

Look there is Maxie my doggies tracks
As he chases the squirrels, then coming back

He runs behind the evergreen tree
Around the shed to see what he can see.

Footprints in the snow you see
Some of them, where made by me.

For someone has to shovel that snow
Where did all those footprints go?

Two lonely pine cones

Two tiny pine cones
Hanging on the pine

Needles surround them
I’ll claim them, they are mine…

They add beauty to the pine tree
As delicate as they are

You have to look closely
For you can’t see them from afar.

The needles, they are wispy..
The aroma is of pine…

I’m happy to claim them,
And say that they are mine…..
